Change the way you think of appliqué with this new approach by Linda M. Poole. Rather than using individual fabric pieces for appliqué, Linda shows how to use one piece of fabric and paints to achieve beautiful, artistic, appliquéd quilts. Use the original downloadable pattern to practice along with Linda, then apply this method to any quilt. Painted appliqué is fun, easy, and makes your quilts sing. Linda also shows her pattern quilted in various ways and with a variety of embellishments and extra-special finishing touches. Even if you have never painted before or feel you are not an artist, you will be creating lovely painted appliqué quilts of your own in no time with Linda’s encouraging and thorough instruction.

  1. Will I have to make the project look just like hers?
No, and one of the most interesting parts of this class is seeing the many ways this project can be completed. Linda provides many samples and examples of pieces done various ways…using the same pattern. So, when you complete yours, be sure to share it with us so we can enjoy it, too!
  2. What if I am not very artistic and haven’t really painted before?
No worries! Linda will guide you every step of the way! She is an excellent instructor. With the pattern she provides and her enthusiastic and encouraging style, you may discover that your personal artistry was waiting to emerge at just this moment.
  3. What if I have questions?
We recommend that you watch the class in its entirety and become familiar with the downloadable materials. At that point, if something is unclear, go to the tab that allows you to ask a question and Linda will get back with you.
  4. When can I start the class?
We know you are excited to get started. After you have purchased the class, you can enjoy it anywhere and anytime you have Internet. The class belongs to you, so watch it as many times as you like!

Excellent demonstrations and learned more than just painted applique.
  2. Joyce Abbott

Fun class with a bunch of good tips. I can't wait to give it a try.
  3. Gale Sowle

Linda, Thank you so much for the clear detailed instruction and tips for working w/the fabric paints and the quilting techniques. The excellent examples of your beautiful creative work is very inspiring. I am in the process of purchasing the supplies and can not wait to get started on a project. I purchased both of your books for reference, too. As some of the other students mentioned, I also wo

uld enjoy taking a class on trees and landscaping. I really enjoyed this class and will be referring back to the video. Excellent class - Thanks again!!!
  4. Laura Baumann

Excellent class. I enjoyed the clear, focused presentation -- and the joyful examples. So much information about the details. Beautiful work and beautiful job teaching.
  5. Ann Thomas

I love this class. It is so much fun to watch. Can't wait to try her techniques. One thing -- I would love it if I-Quilt would have her back for another class. I would definitely sign up. She mentioned teaching "trees" in another class -- this would be wonderful. Also, I would like to see one whole lesson just on practicing different kinds of doodling. Thank you so much!
  6. Grace King

Great course!!! I bought the book a few months ago but didn't feel confident enough to get started, however, this course is the perfect compliment to her book. With Linda's instruction for each step of the process and after having watched all of the classes I feel properly equipped to get started. I recommend this class to anyone who is interested in doing something outside of mainstream quilti

ng & applique. I love an opportunity to learn new skills and techniques and Linda has certainly provided an excellent new method that is fun to do plus will enable me to take my applique work to an entirely new level. I look forward to getting started and incorporating some doodle/zentangle artistry!!
  7. Sheila Webb

Fantastic course very informative, wonderful teacher explains everything in detail.I have done decorative painting in the past but have not tried inktence pencils or blocks. So i am very excited to try fabric painting. Thank you Linda for sharing you knowledge of beautiful art techniques.
  8. Kathleen Chandonais

I have watched many, many courses on Craftsy, but this one by Linda on iQuilt has to be one of the best on modern quilting techniques. You feel as though you are right in the room with Linda. She explains every step of what she is doing and why (an invaluable process, as I have both taught and written course materials in high tech for years and years) - I would highly recommend this class to any

one willing to try a new approach to applique! I just finished a crib quilt and used the Inktense pencils, but now I wish I would have watched Linda's class first!!! Attagirl, Linda!
  9. Maureen Felton

It's wonderful how the universe works! Recently I purchased Derwent Pencils and Blocks. I've never painted but wanted to try adding paint to my quilts. Checked out some programs on YouTube. They were ok but I wasn't feeling very confident. Then I saw your classes on iquilt and signed right on. You make each and every step so clear. Now I can't wait for tomorrow when I'll start a new "painted"

project. Thank you so much. Maureen
  10. Vickie Norris

This was a fun, informative and artistically beautiful class to take. Linda was so fast to respond to my questions and I just really enjoyed the entire experience.
  11. Mindy Jacobs

Excellent! I truly enjoyed this class and Linda's teaching. She is precise, explanatory and gives you so many options to choose from as well as what she prefers. She is thorough and gives you so many pointers to get the most from your paints with the least amount of waste. Thanks Linda for your wonderful instruction and and sharing your technique that I can see you truly love doing.
  12. Marsha Watro

I LOVED the Iquilt class with Linda - she was an exceptional instructor and it was very easy to follow her directions. A few days ago I was fortunate to be able to take an "in person" class with Linda and she was a wonderful instructor! She has developed a unique technique for painting and appliqué and it was exciting to create a beautiful quilt with this method. Everyone in our class was so e

xcited with their final product and we proudly showed them at our guild meeting. I felt Linda became a new friend by the end of the day. Her friendly personality was a bonus and we all enjoyed our time with her. I have taken many quilt classes and she was truly one of the best instructors. I can't wait to create more of her patterns!
    Thank you Linda!
  13. Diana Jones

Great Class! Instructor is very knowledgeable and explains everything in detail.
  14. Lisa Wagner

I LOVED this class! I see so much more potential with this technique than just applique. I am using it for some embroidery work right now and I am having a blast using this method. And Linda is such a pleasure to watch.
  15. Christina Yoo

I have had the pleasure of taking an in-person course from Linda and now this wonderful online course. She is absolutely one of the BEST instructors I have ever had. If you have not heard of Derwent Inktense pencils or blocks and you love color...you are MISSING OUT!!! You should definitely check out Linda's class and the companion book is a must!! The color that they give is stunning and tal

k about easy to use??!! Just like coloring! So don't worry that you may not be an artist or painter...you CAN do this...just watch Linda! Christina Yoo
  16. Jessie Vialpando

amazing class, have the applique book but I am more of a visual person, and self taught, learned more about painted applique and how to turn under the edges. Hope to see more of Linda's beautiful painted applique pieces like flowers. How the units are put together, this class is for a beginner advance person still learn something new.
  17. Midje Kerr

What a wonderful new way of making art quilts! For a couple of years I tried various methods of fabric painting and made many not-so-happy mistakes. But Linda's well thought-out process and easy, clear teaching method gives the artist ample opportunity to learn and to build on her technique, opening creative doors not thought of before. The technical format of the class also makes it very easy t

o follow and absorb. I just love this and can't wait to get started. I also highly recommend her book on this.
  18. Debra Linker

I am so glad I took this course! I am an experienced fabric painter and still found lots of great info regarding supplies, tools, and techniques. Linda's style is easy going, which was very important to me as I tend to "zoom" through info and speed read content. Her style helped me slow down, focus, and really pay attention....and I did not get bored or wish she would "move on" even one time! I ha

ppened to have all the materials on hand needed to start practicing with Linda's technique and am really pleased to be able to go back to various parts of the lessons any time I want to, on my own time, and as often as I want to. This is definitely a class worth taking to expand your creative tool kit. Linda is a very good teacher!
  19. Carol Cunningham

Excellent class. I am new to painting on fabric, so I found the initial lessons very helpful. The instructions were very clear and each lesson built on the previous in a way that was very easy to follow. This class definitely has inspired me to play with these techniques and products further & I will be returning to this class often. Definitely a great starting off point for exploring painted

  20. Pamela Dransfeldt

    Color me happy!!

I watched all the classes and can't wait to go back.. review and give painted appliqué a try!! All the instructions were clear and explained in a way that I understood the process. I've always wondered how it was done.... I even got the appliqué process of turning the edges with the glue stick also.
The explanation of painting your own applique pieces and the

n detailing them with the indenti pen with lines and doodles made it fun... and can be done to add so much of your own personal touch to the appliqué verses just using regular fabric.

The quilting segment Linda shows so many different examples and ideas to choose from. So as you start your own project it will give you permission to be creative and trying different background fabrics in your own project.

Great Ideas, great tips, you can't go wrong with this video. I walked away with lots of new ideas/knowledge .. possibilities are endless.....

  21. Mickey Depre

Simply Amazing. Linda is informative and guiding with instruction, but yet opens windows to adding your own creativity to her designs. This course has my head racing with possibilities and my feet racing to my studio to unearth my Derwent Inktense pencils!
  22. Deirdre Abbotts

I've had the pleasure of taking classes with Linda before and this class was just like being in the front row! She takes her time explaining and showing you the best way to do her techniques. With the added benefit of being able to replay her easy instructions, you will have the confidence to finally use those Inktense pencils you bought! I'm really glad I took this class and I can see lots of pr

    actical applications for this process.
  23. Mary Espenshade

Great class! I have just finished watching Linda's fun course - it is filled with so much information. Sit down and get ready to learn and enjoy the process. Linda tells you what you need, why you need it and how to use it, in an easy and comfortable way. Now you will be ready to start a really fun project!
